Actress and Comedian Janeane Garofalo has been an American institution since she burst on the scene in 1992.

In addition to acting in film and television, Janeane is an outspoken activist, spoken word performer and stand-up comedy entertainer known and respected around the country, and the world. As well, she was instrumental in the successful launching of the first liberal radio network, Air America Radio, where she hosted her own talk show, "The Majority Report." A lightning rod for controversy, Janeane's well informed opinions and unflinching honesty have inspired laughs, as well as striking a chord with the left, right and everyone in between. She is a noted peace activist.

Janeane has had many memorable and critically acclaimed roles in films such as "The Truth About Cats and Dogs," "Steal This Movie," "Copland," "Reality Bites," and "Duane Hopwood," as well as for her specific brand of sharp wit and comedy shown in her roles in "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion," "Bye Bye Love," "Mystery Men," "Clay Pigeons," "The Minus Man" and "The Cable Guy," directed by her friend Ben Stiller. Ben and Janeane also co-authored the best seller "Feel This Book," (Ballantine May 1999). Janeane was also a cast member of the Emmy Award-winning Ben Stiller Show.

Janeane played the role of Paula, the acerbic talent booker, on "The Larry Sanders Show," for which she received an Emmy nomination in 1997 and two Cable Ace nominations. During the fall of '94 she joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live." Some of Janeane's other television work includes two specials for HBO, the series finale of "Mad About You" and the critically lauded, final season of NBC's "The West Wing," where she played Democratic campaign strategist Louise Thornton.

In 2007, Janeane's voice was featured in the Disney/Pixar animated comedy Ratatouille, and can be seen in Stella writer/director David Wain's ensemble comedy, "The Ten." Janeane can also be seen in her latest projects, the Lifetime movie "Girl's Best Friend" and as a recurring character on the 2009 season of "24."

He has performed Mozart with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Philip Glass on the BBC. Profiled on NBC’s Today show, Brubaker was presented by New York’s Carnegie Hall, at Michigan’s Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, and Boston’s Institute for Contemporary Arts. Pulitzer-Prize-winning Washington Post critic Tim Page has said: “I wouldn't trade Pollini, Argerich, Richard Goode, Peter Serkin or Bruce Brubaker (to mention a terrific younger artist) for any handful of Horowitzes!” Brubaker has appeared at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, at the Tanglewood Festival, at Finland’s Kuhmo Festival, Chicago’s Harris Theater, Antwerp’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Leipzig’s Gewandhaus. New recording projects include Meredith Monk’s complete piano music (with Ursula Oppens), a recording of music by Glass (for the French label Infiné), and a recording of Nico Muhly’s Drones for Iceland’s Bedroom Community label.

Bruce Brubaker has premiered music by Philip Glass, John Cage, Nico Muhly, and Mark-Anthony Turnage. Brubaker studied at the Juilliard School in New York. At Juilliard, he originated an interdisciplinary performance project that brought together actors, dancers, and musicians. At Juilliard, he has appeared in public conversations with Philip Glass, Milton Babbitt, and Meredith Monk. Every now and then, a combination will go beyond “appropriate” or “good” and result in something that forever alters the universe. Just imagine a world without chocolate and peanut butter, Doc Martens and a leather jacket, Beavis and Butthead, and of course, Mudhoney and Sub Pop. April 2013 marks the 25th anniversary of both Mudhoney and Sub Pop Records, and there could be no better band to represent the label, past, present and future. Nirvana, Saint Etienne and Fleet Foxes are swell, but no other group has consistently kicked as much ass as Mudhoney, nor has anyone come close. Through two and a half decades, sarcastic grins remain implanted on their grizzled faces, even as empty bottles and the sneakers of a stage diver fly inches from their heads.

Along with this milestone celebration, Mudhoney have bestowed Vanishing Point upon us. It’s not their first album. Or third. Or seventh. Vanishing Point is Mudhoney’s ninth studio album, a truly remarkable feat for any band, but almost statistically impossible in their case, as we are talking about a band whose 1988 debut Touch Me I’m Sick b/w Sweet Young Thing Ain’t Sweet No More was such a volatile and desperate single that it’s miraculous the band made it through a weekend, let alone another year. In an age where only the newest of the new can survive (and even then, only for a few weeks at best), what could the decades-old Mudhoney have to offer? What could they possibly have left to say?

Real uninhibited rock music is harder and harder to locate these days, but Mudhoney make it easy for you, not just by being the flagship band of the greatest record label in the history of recorded time, but by writing songs that stick in your head long after your body has been buried. Vanishing Point isn’t just another entry in their impressive catalog, but the modern-day rock ‘n’ roll lashing we all deserve. As usual, Mark Arm says it best, as in “Sing This Song of Joy”: “I sing this song of joy / for all the girls and boys / dancing on your grave…”

THE KINSEY SICKS, America’s Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet, will celebrate their 20th anniversary with “America’s Next Top Bachelor Housewife Celebrity Hoarder Makeover Star Gone Wild.” This over-the-top new musical will play two performances only at Mayne Stage, August 16. In this brilliant reality send-up, we find Rachel, Winnie, Trixie and Trampolina in the jungle, trying their best to score at challenges that involve singing, dancing, dating, dieting and, of course, large insects. THE KINSEY SICKS formed by freak accident in December of 1993 in San Francisco. Since then, they have written and performed scores of musicals, starred in their own Off-Broadway show at New York’s legendary Studio 54, toured internationally, recorded eight albums and been the subject of two feature films. Their extensive and remarkably diverse fan base includes people of all ages, genders and religions (and several political positions). THE KINSEY SICKS were, in fact, contestants in Season 3 of “America’s Got Talent.” Their first performances brought standing ovations from the audience and gushing praise from the judges. One performance was featured as the theme footage for the pre-season trailer. However, once show producers caught wind of the Kinseys’ brand of politics, flavor of humor, and Rachel’s personal hygiene, they were cheerfully shown the door, and the footage of the performance footage was left on the cutting room floor.

Formed in 2008, Earthen Grave is a six-piece Chicago metal band that marries the sounds of metal past and future with a sweaty, pummeling live show. Bassist Ron Holzner served a 15-year sentence with Chicago doom legends Trouble and Rachel Barton Pine brings her frightening classical chops to a relatively new instrument, the Viper. Finding groups like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Saint Vitus, Trouble, Pentagram, Candlemass and Slayer to be common influences, the band wrote and played shows around Chicago for the first half of 2009, culminating in the release of the“Dismal Times” EP in June. Featuring three original songs that meld classic, crunchy doom and NWOBHM vibes with a solid dose of thrashy bludgeoning alongside covers of two choice doom classics by Pentagram and Witchfinder General, the EP was hailed by critics as “astounding,” and “pure, head-banging bliss” (MaximumMetal.com) and prompted Doommantia.com to write, “Can’t wait till the band gives us a full length with all originals...they have all the songwriting capabilities to make one of the best albums ever.”

In July 2010, Earthen Grave closed the Great Performers of Illinois festival at Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago’s famed Millennium Park, where Rachel received the 2010 Great Performer of Illinois award. The band was featured on NBC’s Today Show and live in studio on WGN’s nationally televised Midday News. ISLE of KLEZBOS approaches tradition with irreverence and respect. Based in NYC, this soulful, fun-loving powerhouse all-women’s klezmer sextet has toured from Vienna to Vancouver since 1998. Band repertoire ranges from rambunctious to entrancing: neo-traditional folk dance, mystical melodies, Yiddish swing and retro tango, late Soviet-era Jewish drinking song, re-grooved standards, and genre-defying originals.

Formed by drummer / leader Eve Sicular, ISLE of KLEZBOS features alumnae of Juilliard, Eastman and Manhattan Schools of Music as well as Harvard, and has been honored with multiple awards by The New York State Council on the Arts, Outmusic, and Sparkplug Foundation.Various Klezbos bandmates have performed in Sicular’s musical documentary theater piece J. EDGAR KLEZMER: Songs from My Grandmother’s FBI Files, and several also play together in Metropolitan Klezmer (octet formed in 1994). River Whyless is named in spirit of its ongoing love affair with the natural world. Since its formation in 2009 the band has toured extensively, playing hundreds of shows from coast to coast and into Canada. Its debut album "A Stone, A Leaf, An Unfound Door" was recorded in the band's home studio in Asheville, NC and released in March of 2012. Its sound has been described as folk-rock, nature-pop, and baroque-folk, but in the end the members of River Whyless hope only to lend craft to their passions.

Born in Queens and raised on Long Island, Dave Attell got into stand-up comedy in the late eighties after graduating from New York University with a degree in Film and Television. Attell used this prestigious degree to land amazing jobs in the food service industry - as a waiter. At night he would hit the "open mic" circuit in Manhattan. After many years, Attell worked his way up through the club scene onto the road, touring across America as a national headliner and developing a huge following among fans and the industry alike.

Dave Attell is currently the creator and host of “Dave’s Old Porn” on Showtime. “Dave’s Old Porn” has featured such talent as Whitney Cummings, Chelsea Handler, Adam Carolla and Daniel Tosh. Season two will be airing this fall.

He was named one of the “25 Funniest People in America” by Entertainment Weekly Magazine. His caustic wit, rapid-fire delivery and his choice of material that can best be described as "very adult" has earned him the reputation as a "comic's comic." But if you ask Attell, he’d say, "I’m just trying to get some laughs and sell some drinks."

In 2001, Attell used this love of booze and laughter to create and host the hit series, "Insomniac with Dave Attell" for Comedy Central. A travelogue show in which Attell goes from city to city looking for late-night fun, The New York Times called the show, "a doubly rare beast, a comedy without rancor and a travel show about the virtues of the American underdog." To Attell, the Insomniac show is more of a cross between "Girls Gone Wild” and “Cops”.

After four seasons of “Insomniac,” Attell taped several hour-long “Insomniac” specials overseas in Japan, Germany, England and Brazil. Once back in the states, he headed out on a thirty-five city theatre tour ending in Vegas, where he hosted a two-hour special for Comedy Central featuring Sean Rouse, Greg Geraldo and Dane Cook, some of the biggest comics in the country.

Dave Attell has made numerous appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O'Brien,” “The Howard Stern Show,” “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”. He also appeared in Chris Rock’s cult film "Pootie Tang”. Other television credits include FOX's "Arrested Development," NBC's "Ed," HBO, Comedy Central’s "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" and his own half-hour stand-up special "Comedy Central Presents Dave Attell”.

When not on the road, Attell makes regular appearances at the Comedy Cellar in New York City.

By this stage of the rock ‘n’ roll plot, most bands that made their first mark in the 1960s are either at home tending their gardens or peddling nostalgia to finance their ex-wives. Very few are enhancing their legendary reputations with new releases, fresh songwriting and tireless touring. That’s where the Zombies come in.
Underpinned, just as they were in those early days, by the individual and collective brilliance of vocal craftsman Colin Blunstone and keyboard virtuoso Rod Argent, the Zombies are simultaneously celebrating the past and seizing the future. Not for them the option of sitting home and spinning yarns, as they’d be quite entitled to do, of making their undying hit singles, sharing UK bills with Dusty Springfield, US shows with the Beach Boys, or following the Beatles’ Abbey Road sessions for Sgt. Pepper to make an album that would reverberate for generations to come.

“Last year,” says Blunstone, “we played in the UK, US, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Holland, Japan and the Philippines. It was incredible.” 2013 contains a new live album, three separate American tours in it (not to mention a festival in Central Park, a cruise with the Moody Blues and much more) and the group are constantly in demand for the prestigious US network television music shows, interviews and radio sessions. Talk about just desserts for dues paid.

The amazing new chapters that the Zombies have added to their story in recent times have created a momentum that gets greater by the year. The group have finally received their due as the great undervalued masters of the original British invasion, with rave reviews and acknowledgements about their influence from an inventory of modern artists, from Paul Weller to Dave Grohl.

But far from resting on those laurels, the band are forging ahead, with a bulging 2013 datebook and an enthusiastic commitment to start work – just as soon as there’s time – on the 2014 release of what will be the much-anticipated follow-up to 2011’s Breathe Out, Breathe In.

Meanwhile, there’s The Zombies Live In The UK, a new ten-track collection recorded on the road last year, and released in May to coincide with the British leg of their 2013 itinerary. Sony Music release a similar live album in the US as part of their Extended Versions series around March 2013.

“We’re very excited about the way the band’s playing,” says Argent. “Colin’s voice is as strong as it ever was, and I feel that my voice is better than it used to be, because I’ve worked on it. Our chops, both playing and singing, are better now than they were before.”

Windy City Gay Idol, now in its 11th year, marches to the finals in search of the best amateur LGBTQ or allied singer in the Chicago area. After more than a decade, Windy City Gay Idol has grown into the largest and most highly anticipated competition in Chicago’s LGBTQ community. The Grand Finale is held during Gay Pride Week.

Past Windy City Gay Idol winners have gone on to sing at Wrigley Field, Soldier Field, Allstate Arena, Market Days and at festivals around Illinois, Milwaukee, Toronto and Vancouver. In addition, the 2012 Windy City Gay Idol Finalist Josh “JDA” Davilla landed in the Top 40 on Fox’s American Idol 2013. Plus the 2008 Windy City Gay Idol Finals featured a then-unknown Lady Gaga as a guest performer. Audiences never know what they will see and hear at the Windy City Gay Idol Finals.

The concert will feature guest performers including Tony Award-winner Levi Kreis, who will debut his new CD, Imagine Paradise. Kreis, who is openly gay, won the Tony in 2011 for his powerful portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis in the Chicago and Broadway smash hit, Million Dollar Quartet. Openly gay Chicago-area native De’Borah, who came close to winning with mentor Christina Aguilera’s help on the 2012 season on TV’s The Voice, will also perform at the contest, as will 2013 American Idol hopeful JDA who wowed audiences with his androgyny, vocal talent and unique style.

The evening is hosted by Amy Matheny and Sofia Saffire and has guest judges: Levi Kreiss, JDA, and Mickie Paskal and Jennifer Rudnicke of PR Casting. For 20 years, PR Casting has been working in both film and television, most recently casting Showtime’s Shameless and NBC’s Chicago Fire as well as the feature, Transformers 3.

The 2013 Windy City Gay Idol Premium sponsor is Smirnoff. Other Sponsors include Ketel One, Tanqueray, Don Julio, Creaoke, Broadway in Chicago, American Airlines, SpeedPro Printing, Tourism Toronto, Ravinia, AIDS Foundation of Chicago and Fields Mini of Chicago.

The finals winner crowned at Mayne Stage is awarded a prize package worth more than $5,000 including $1,000 in cash, a 5-day/4-night trip to Toronto, Smirnoff gifts, theater and concert tickets, plus the coveted title of Windy City Gay Idol 2013.
